In this project, students conducted interviews with project managers in a variety of industries. The students worked as a team to conduct web-based research to understand exactly what project managers do, and need to know to be able to do their jobs effectively. The students focused their research on five main areas (current job description, background information, job success, stakeholders, challenges and job satisfaction), but also used their knowledge of project management processes to ask their own specific questions.
After the students developed an interview protocol and interviewed the project managers, they completed a set of deliverables to be turned in. The students main deliverable was a PowerPoint presentation to present their findings to the class, and a 3-5 page paper on the information they learned. Students also turned in a group daily log, which keeps track of their daily tasks using a classroom log that summarizes the group work to be completed, a group summary, accomplishments, new issues or risks they encountered, and if they are on schedule to complete project.
Below are a list of companies that were interviewed for the project.
